Welte News

  • Dear Welte Families,

We hope that this letter finds you well!

If you have not registered your student for this coming school year, please do so as soon as you can.

Thank you for your patience in our communication of the plan to re-open school. As you can imagine, this has been a challenging task with so many changes happening due to the COVID pandemic and the numbers of confirmed cases changing so often in our county. One thing is certain: We are excited to work with students and families again, and are confident that we can continue to educate students no matter what the circumstances create for us.

Our plan to get students back to learning is set, but could still be subject to change, depending on any new guidance from the County or the State. Unless you hear differently from the District, or from me, our plan to get students back to learning is as follows:

We will have one in-person “orientation” day with each grade level, during the week of August 17th. Students will receive their laptop on this day. They will go through their regular “in-person” six period day schedule (this will be a full school day, from 7:50 - 3:15). Students may bring their own lunches, or get lunch from our cafeteria from their lunch account or for purchase. They will be able to meet with teachers to get an overview of what remote learning will look like for each class. After their orientation day, they will not come to school until the projected return to in-person learning day during the week of September 8th, and they will begin their remote learning school schedule. We will share the remote learning schedule with you as we get closer to the start of school.

Hopefully you have seen the Health and Safety Guidelines for reopening school communication from the District. We will be conducting temperature checks for students on the orientation day prior to them entering the building. Students will be required to wear masks on this day as well. In addition, we have put many other safety protocols in place to support social distancing, hand washing and sanitizing, and movement in our classrooms and building. We are confident in our plan to lessen the potential for exposure on this day. These precautions will be in place when students return to school for in-person learning as well.

Busing transportation will be provided on the orientation day if needed. There will be similar safety precautions for transportation as noted above. If your student will need transportation on this day please make sure that you have completed the transportation registration process. If you have any questions on locations for pick up or drop off please contact the transportation department at: 719-382-1335

    Orientation Day Schedule

The orientation day schedule is as follows: Please remember this is a one day only event for each grade level. Students will not attend any other days with other grade levels.

    Tuesday, August 18th:

    • 9th grade students attend small-group, in-person orientation

    Wednesday, August 19th:

    • 10th grade students attend small-group, in-person orientation

    Thursday, August 20th

    • 11th grade students attend small-group, in-person orientation

    Friday, August 21st

    • 12th grade students attend small-group in-person orientation

*For our FFCVA Welte students: (Students who are connected to Welte, but are enrolled in FFCVA), and WEC Online Students (Students who attended the WEC Online program last year). Or for students who do not feel comfortable being here for all day orientation.

    • Monday, August 17th: Students will come to Welte on the day of Aug. 17th. for laptop pick up only. Students may pick up laptops between 7:30 - 3:00 at Welte. Students will not have an all-day in-person orientation, but will receive this remotely through instructors and administration. No transportation will be available for this day.

Again, these are our plans now which we hope do not change. It is possible that if there is an increase in the number of cases in El Paso county as these dates get closer that this plan may have to be altered. We hope that in an effort to keep our plan in place, and to get students back to school, that our community is taking all of the health mandates seriously and wearing masks when in in-door public spaces and practicing social distancing guidelines.

We also hope that this finds you well and safe, and we look forward to seeing students again soon. If you have any questions please feel free to email or call for more information, or to share any concerns.

    Thank you,

    Mr. Nuhn

    Career Start

Students attending Welte have the opportunity to earn college credit by taking a Career Start course at Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) starting their junior year. Students will earn high school credit by passing a course with a "D" or better and college credit by earning a "C" or better in a course. The school district covers cost for tuition and provides transportation to PPCC for students. High school sophomores and juniors interested in taking a Career Start course at PPCC for their following year will have an opportunity to tour programs on the campus in February through a sign up sheet provided by the school counselor in January. Eligibility to participate in a Career Start course depends on grades, attendance, and behavior. In addition, Career Start courses must align with credits needed to graduate on time. The following attachment provides some more information about Career Start and courses offered.
