Classified Employee Feature - Paula Gingras, FMS paraprofessional

Paula Gingras is a paraprofessional in Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8. This job is similar to what you might call a teacher’s aide. Specifically, Paula supports students with significant and severe special needs (SSN) with their classwork at Fountain Middle School. She helps with Life Skills training (i.e. cooking, laundry, sign language) and electives (physical education and keyboarding). Paula joined the FFC8 family in 2009, wanting to have a job that fit the school hours of her twins, including summers off.

A typical day for Paula starts with greeting students in the morning at their buses. This year, she also takes their temperature and records that before school starts. Then, she continues to help students throughout their days, as they attend classes and go to meals. She may work with specific individual students who need more support on packets of work or in the reading program, too.

According to Paula, “My favorite thing about my job is the reward of seeing students understanding and advancing in learning and/or meeting their individual goals. Also, the school schedule hours with summers off still work for me.”

Paula has a big heart and genuinely cares about others and how they are doing, and those qualities are evident at work. Corrie Walker, Paula’s supervisor and FMS assistant principal, says, “Paula’s coworkers can always count on her to jump in to help whenever she is needed. Her enthusiasm in regards to her job is seen and appreciated by her co-workers in the SSN classroom and in other center-based programs.”

Paula is an amazing paraprofessional and we are thankful to have her as part of the FFC8 family!
