Mr. Michael Griffin

Dear Families,

Thank you for the honor of teaching your Fifth Graders this year! I am entering my 18th year of experience as a professional educator, all of them here at Mountainside Elementary. I couldn't be more proud to serve those who serve our country, and I'm completely dedicated to the success and welfare of my students.

I grew up a military "brat," so I feel a strong connection to military families. I have a deep understanding of the unique circumstances and experiences involved with frequently moving house, spending extended time far from a loved one, and having to say goodbye to best friends over and over.

My father retired here in Colorado Springs after a 20-year career in the Air Force, so I've lived here for most of my life, including all through high school and college. I studied Psychology, and then Philosophy, before settling on Literature as the best way to continue to learn more about both Psychology and Philosophy. I excelled in my studies, especially writing, for which I earned Highest Distinction honors upon graduation.

I saw education as a way to make a difference, and I began postgraduate work toward a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I didn't find the work nearly as easy as studying Literature. In fact, it was a struggle. Teaching has been the hardest thing I've ever done, but I've never regretted my decision to enter the profession.

I look forward to working with you to ensure success for our Fifth Graders. Please explore the pages linked to the left as I continue to update, to learn more about what to expect in the upcoming year.
