Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Taska Dobson
Dear Mountain Side Elementary School Staff, Students and Families,
I hope this letter finds you all well and that you are having a wonderful “Cougar” day. My name is Taska Dobson (Mrs. Taska to our Cougars) and I am the new Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC) for this school year. I am super excited to be here at Mountainside this year working with our students and their families. I am new to the area as I have just moved here with my active duty spouse. I have received a warm Colorado welcome and am enjoying the beautiful scenery here.
I currently hold an active Licensed Professional Counselor license for Colorado. My previous work experience includes working with patients and families who were receiving hospice services, working with college students, and working with court mandated clients. In addition to my counseling work, I have also served in multiple volunteer roles with the Navy including serving as a spouse mentor, Navy Family Ombudsman and Ombudsman Assembly Chairperson. In my new role as MFLC at Mountainside Elementary it is my desire to be able to provide support to our students so that they may thrive in this military lifestyle.
As the MFLC, I provide brief, solution-focused, non-medical counseling to our active duty military and their families. The concerns that I can address include the following:
Relocation Communication Parental/sibling relationships
Deployment Psychoeducational groups Self-Esteem
Reintegration Resolving Conflicts Bullying
Helping children identify and deal with feelings Referrals
Services that I provide are confidential except for situations regarding mandated duty warn. These include harm to self, harm to others, child abuse/neglect, domestic violence. Please also note that if someone is already “in the system” in which they are receiving services from a psychiatrist or a therapist for therapeutic support, I am unable to provide support in this situation as we do not want to duplicate services.
If you are interested in having me work with your child, please sign, and return an MFLC consent form. Copies are available in the front office, on the school website (below), from your student’s teacher, or you can contact me directly.
I hope that this letter has been helpful to you in learning about what services are available to you and your families. Please feel free to reach out to me should you have any questions or concerns regarding the MFLC program and working with your student. Again, I am excited to be at Mountainside Elementary this year and I look forward to completing a fabulous school year and supporting our Cougars.
