Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Yonge Simmons
Hi, I will be your child’s 5th grade teacher during the 2018-2019 school year. I am looking forward to a very productive and successful year at Patriot!
I am new to Patriot, so I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I attended Clemson University and Western Governors University and graduated with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. I have an added science endorsement on my teaching license. All of my 9 years teaching has been in Pueblo school districts 60 and 70. I taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 5th grade. I also taught 2nd-6th grade science.
My wife and I have been married for 35 years and have two sons, age 19 and 23. Lange, the oldest, is in Boulder for grad school and Joshua goes to UCCS and lives at home. We have lived in Montgomery, AL, Atlanta, GA, Colorado City, CO, and now Colorado Springs. The boys and I like to camp and have traveled a little doing just that. I grew up outside Charleston, SC in Mt Pleasant and we try to go “home” to see my family every summer. My wife is from Denver, although she no longer has family there.
I like to keep in touch with all of you and let you know how you child is doing in class. I set up a Google Classroom page just for Parents. There will be announcements and general information on it with new information posted each Thursday evening. There is a student Google Classroom page where you can check on your student’s work also.

Ms. Martinez and I will be sharing classes this year. She will teach English Language Arts and Social Studies; I will teach Science and Math. That is why I have included a link to Ms. Martinez’s class. Half of the day the students will be in science and math with me and half they will be in ELA and social studies with her. Ms. Martinez and I are very excited about this year’s prospects and can’t wait to start.
