FFC8 Schools Receive State's First Purple Star School Designation
FOUNTAIN, CO – Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 (FFC8) is proud to announce that all K-12 schools within the district have been awarded the prestigious Purple Star School designation by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). This recognition highlights FFC8’s long-standing dedication to supporting military-connected students and their families, ensuring a welcoming and stable educational environment.
The Purple Star Schools Program, established in 2024 through House Bill 24-1076, recognizes schools that demonstrate a commitment to students in military families by implementing key support services. Schools earning this distinction have established initiatives such as dedicated military liaisons, student transition programs, professional development for staff, and accessible online resources to aid military families. FFC8 staff were also a key part of writing language for the bill and testifying during its passage.
“This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment of FFC8 staff and schools in providing essential support for military-connected students,” said Superintendent Dr. Keith Owen. “As a district with approximately 70% military-connected students, we take great pride in creating an environment where students and families feel supported, embraced, and empowered to succeed.”
FFC8 is the only school district in Colorado to have its entire portfolio of K-12 schools earn this distinction, reinforcing its unique demographic makeup among Colorado school districts and its reputation as a leader in military family support.
