Holly "The Dog Lady" Niewinski - Counselor

The military has been part of my life for over 25 years, and I know very well what is expected of a military dependent.  As a former military spouse, it took ten years and 8 colleges to get my BA degree.  After I received my BA in Psychology and Biology, I received my master’s degree in counseling from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I am a nationally certified counselor (NCC), and hold both a Colorado School Counseling License and a License in professional counseling (LPC).  The 2017-2018 school year will be my fifteenth year at Patriot and I have enjoyed helping students succeed despite the challenges that the military places on them.
If I could choose a favorite activity it would be spending time with my daughters and grand-kids.  Besides spending time with my family; in my spare time I enjoy yoga, gardening, hiking, baking, and sewing.  I am also an avid volunteer:   a naturalist docent with Fountain Creek Nature Center, and I am the El Paso County leader and a puppy trainer for Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc.  I am a strong advocate for service learning, and I am proud of the fact that I not only help raise awareness and acceptance of people with disabilities, but I also teach the students empathy and the value of community service.
