  • Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State for English Language Learners (ACCESS for ELL)
    Grades: K - 12
    Colorado is a member of the World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Consortium.  ACCESS for ELLs is the state required large-scale language proficiency test for K-12 students and is one component of the WIDA Consortium's comprehensive, standards-driven system designed to improve the teaching and learning of English language learners (ELLs).  The purpose of ACCESS for ELLs is to monitor student progress in English language proficiency (ELP) on a annual basis and to serve as a criterion to aid in determining when ELLs have attained language proficiency comparable to that of their English-proficient peers.  This assessment is administered to all students identified as English Language Learners to measure students' progress in acquiring academic English (listening, speaking, reading and writing domains).

  • Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS)
    CMAS measures achievement in Mathematics and English Language Arts per the Colorado Academic Standards.
    Mathematics and English Language Arts Grades: 3-8
    Duration: CMAS: 6-8 hours
    CMAS also measures Science and Social Studies
    Science: Grades 5, 8, & 11
    Duration: Science: Up to 3 hours
    Social Studies: Grades 4, 7, & 11*
    Duration: Social Studies: Up to 3 hours
    CoAlt is an alternate assessment for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.  The state uses these assessment results for evaluating students' mastery of the extended evidence outcomes of the Colorado Academic Standards and evaluating the performance of districts and schools.

  • Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Assessment
    Grades: 3 - 9
    Measure what students with significant cognitive disabilities know and can do in Math and English Language Arts.
    Duration: Varies by student


  • Dynamic Inventory of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS)
    Grades: K - 3; 4 - 5 (Strategic/Intensive)
    Measure attainment of reading proficiency at grade level by the end of third grade in accordance with Colorado READ Act. 
    Duration: 3 to 8 minutes

  • State College Entrance Exams
    Preliminary SAT: Grade 9 and 10
    The PSAT focuses on the knowledge, skills, and understandings that research has identified as most important for college and career readiness and success.  In addition to helping freshman and sophomores practice for the SAT, it can identify students' potential for success in advanced course work.
    Duration: Up to 2 hours and 45 minutes

    Colorado SAT: Grade 11
    The SAT is an exam that is accepted for admission and placement in all public colleges and universities in the state.  It measures high school students' general education development and their capability to complete college-level work or enter the workforce.

    Measures how prepared a child is for the academic, social, physical, emotional and cognitive demands of school.  The checkpoint is completed by the end of the first trimester.
