Students will be introduced to the western hemisphere along with the basic concepts of social studies (geography, government, economics, and globalization). In the first quarter, we will focus on geography and how history is studied. During second quarter, we will investigate early civilizations of the Western Hemisphere which include the Maya, Aztec, and Incan cultures. Through the third quarter, the focus will shift to Native Americans of North America. We will spend the remainder of the year looking at modern society and the basics of government, economic systems, and globalization, all while learning critical thinking and analytical skills and an appreciation for different cultures around the world.
